Our Praise Team

The Praise Team of the Jamaica Queens Wesleyan Church is a committed, vibrant and talented group of singers, who dedicate their time and talent toward enhancing the Sunday morning worship service of the church, ministering to the saved and unsaved through positive Christian music, giving glory to God, above all.

The Praise Team first sang together at the church's Watch Night service in December 2006 at the request of the drummer, Sharyn Pinkerton. Sharyn personally reached out to a few persons asking that they present at this service, because of the absence of a worship team at the time.  A decision was made to form a steady group for this purpose, led by Sean Brotherson. The Praise Team sings every second and fourth Sunday of each month at special services, and meets for rehearsal every Friday evening at 7 and 8 o'clock.

In the last five years, the Praise Team has grown tremendously, both numerically and spiritually, and to date this team has increased to a current membership of 18 persons including 5 musicians. Unlike the prior groups, this one comprises of a much younger membership. This age group keeps it interesting and brings to the table their zeal, talent, energy and commitment. Life is always exciting and interesting here, and this energy carries itself into the work and ministry of the Praise Team. This is also a great motivator for the older members of the group, keeping them in touch with their youthful side. But lest you be mistaken, not everyone is young and single. More than 40% are older, mature individuals who bring a great balance to the dynamic.

Growth is evidenced by the sacrifice members make each Friday night, balancing school obligations, forsaking the desire to be with friends and other normal activities that they could be involved in, were it not for their loyalty to this ministry. Growth is also evidenced by Renee Callender, another team member who has discovered the leader in herself and continues to blossom beautifully.  Praise God for his amazing work in the lives of the persons in this group.

Satan has certainly noticed how God is using the Praise Team, but like any good team under God's providence, this group has banded together to commit and focus on the overall objective of Christ in music, in ministry.

This past year, Pastor Delph appointed Reverend Ormond Morris as Minister of Music and Sister Carmel Walcott as Director of Music. God has also blessed us with extremely gifted musical resources. Prayerfully, this Team will continue to grow and solidify, becoming a force of ministry for Christ.
